AISD Holds Coaches Professional Development Seminar

Coaches from across the Abilene Independent School District met Friday at the Region 14 Service Center.

The idea of professional development for AISD coaches isn't new, but Athletic Director Phil Blue decided to make it a full day.

The point of the day is to help the coaches understand their roles when it comes to kids on and off the field.

"You know we're not Cougars and Eagles today. We're just the athletic department of AISD, and we're one, and we're trying to learn together," Blue said. "So it is a good opportunity for us to see people that we normally don't see and visit with and gain ideas and information and knowledge from each other."

The seminar consisted of activities, give-aways and brought in a variety of speakers to talk to the coaches.

"We've gone a full day, and we've brought in speakers from outside the district, and really because I've been here a year kind of look at the areas we need improvement and focus on those," Blue said. "Expectations, you know what do parents in this community expect of our coaches when we have their children, and what can we do to get better."

The coaches also heard from parents of former athletes in the AISD to get their perspective, as well.
