Football season is almost here, and Brownwood got right to work at their first practice with their new coach.
"When we're in shorts and helmets, the biggest thing is getting in shape," head coach Kyle Maxfield said. "We have some guys that are in pretty good shape and some guys that are a ways off, so just having the tempo, playing fast, and implementing our stuff day by day so when we put our pads on we've got everything, most things, implemented, and just getting reps."
Practice with pads begins on Friday, and defensive tackle Devon Jefferson said the team is fired up.
"It's going to be intense," Jefferson said. "Everybody is going to come out ready to play, heads flying everywhere, popping everybody."
These first couple of practices show Maxfield's players what he will be bringing to this Lions team all season long.
"Intensity, hype, and more freeness," Jeremy Brown said. "He's more involved with us."
"Coach Maxfield is a great leader and a great person," McLane Moore said. "He really works well with the kids and he gets us all excited. It's fun."
Maxfield is just excited for the season to start and to get his guys out on the field.
"It's exciting, it's great to be a part of the community where they take pride in all athletics, but especially football," Maxfield said. "We want to put a product out on the field that makes everyone proud and this is an exciting time of the year and the biggest job for us is to keep this assignment going day to day."
BCH Sports quick hits for the Brownwood Lions: McLane Moore is new starting quarterback for the lions in 2016. Brownwood is picked second in district 3-4A division I behind Wylie.
They start the season in Lubbock against the Canyon Eagles.
