Eagles are a Close Knit Group

The Abilene High Eagles took the field on Monday morning with a lot to look forward to this year.

They are favored to win their new district, and the Eagles return eleven starters from a very good 2015 team.

Experience is nice for any team, but if the players don't like each other, you can have problems.

That's not a problem for the Eagles according to head coach Del Van Cox.

Coach Cox said, "It's a pretty close knit group of guys. The chemistry, especially during 7-on-7. It's fun to watch a team start growing through the summer."

AHS starting quarterback Peyton Killam said, "From the time we were freshman, I've never seen a group of guys work so hard to get to this point. We're just trying to come out here. We've got big goals, and hopefully, go far this year."

Killam and Abram Smith are the leading offensive returners coming into 2016.

The first scrimmage is Friday, August 19, at Shotwell Stadium against Copperas Cove.

The season starts on August 26 at San Angelo Central.
