The Cisco Loboes are the most successful program in the Big Country over the last ten years or so, and they are hoping to continue that success this year.
The Loboes are in the midst of practice now, playing with pads and everything.
Now every team's always really excited when they finally get to put the pads on, and here at Cisco they said there's two key parts to that, playing more aggressive of course, and also playing all the plays more game like. They kind of get to see where their offense stands as a whole.
"Who's going to be aggressive, who's not, what your offensive line's really going to look like," head coach Brent West said. "It's so difficult to get an accurate picture when you're not in pads, and who can do their job. Who can carry their pads well, you know sometimes speed is obviously something that you need, but a lot of our players just carry their pads well, and we like to see who that's going to be. That's somebody that we're going to get the ball in their hands."
"It's not really aggression as much as we can work harder, and we can finally work together as a team. It's always more fun in pads," Dalton Cozart said.
"It's fun because we get to strap up and actually get to hit someone, so it's a lot of fun," quarterback Kase Gayle said. "We get to practice more realistically, like hitting each other, go offense and defense against each other, so it's a lot of fun. I'm excited for this year, and I think we can do good in our district."
West said, "This is an extremely tough district and you add our preseason to the mix, and it's definitely going to be a challenge for us to stay healthy and keep getting better."
The Loboes are picked first in their district, but it's not going to be an easy road. Coach West says, it's one of the toughest districts he's ever been a part of .
Quick hits for the Cisco Loboes: Kase Gayle is back to play quarterback after delivering 1,300 yards last year. Dillon Brunson and Cecil Beasley combined for 236 tackles in 2016.
The Loboes open the season at home against Breckenridge.
