Coleman Working On Basics In Practice

The Coleman Bluecats enter 2016 ranked 20th, and more than half of the Bluecats starters are back and their confidence is high. But they say they have got lots of work to get done.

Coach John Elder said, "we're just gonna hammer down our basics. Get some guys learning some new positions and get them feeling comfortable with those. We lost some key players last year so we're moving some guys around to try and fill those high profile spots."

Cayden Steffey said, "we all come together to work on our run and pass game offensively. We're working to get better on offense, passing the ball more."

While most high school kids groan at the thought of coming back to practice, the Bluecats have been looking forward to getting back on the field all summer long.

Darrian Hunter said, "with all the chemistry we have it's like another family for us. Coming here you don't dread it at all. You love to be here."

Dylan Robles said, "everyone's always pumped, they're always going. No one slacks off. We all take our jobs pretty seriously."

Coleman has 17 starters returning for the 2016 season... And that seniority is showing itself at practice already

Coach Elder said, "to have a mature senior class and all of them have been in some big games, to bring that leadership back is very important to us."

Hunter said, "it just feels good to know everyone on the field and be playing with them for multiple years and knowing that they got your back."

But the biggest thing the Bluecats are ready for?

Coach Elder said, "Just getting started on Friday nights. Getting the two-a-days out of the way, the practices, the scrimmages, just getting to where we're in a regular week so we can go week to week the same and playing, and be on a good routine and play Friday nights."

Robles said, "No matter what, put out 100%. After football games I want people to be able to look to the guy on their left and the guy on their right on the bus and just say I put out 110% no matter what the outcome is."

And the team hopes that mindset brings success on the field all season long.

The Bluecats are in the same district with Cisco this year, and that match up on October 14th should be a doosie.
