BCH Sports special contributor Steve Warren talked to David Robinett about week 1 of high school football and the Dallas Cowboys.
David Robinett said, "Well, it's time for Warren's Wisdom. The high school football season is getting started. That means Steve Warren is going to be joining us every week as our special contributor talking about high school football, the NFL, college football, and whatever we decide to talk about. This is the first week of the year. What's that week like?"
BCH Sports special contributor Steve Warren said, "It's nerve racking because you've got a lot of little things that you've got to do, but you have to do them only one time. So, these coaches have been working on them really hard, so they can get to preparation for football. All these forms and UIL and physicals and two-a-days and school starting and all of that stuff, you get it behind you this week, but getting all of that done is a little bit nerve racking."
David Robinett said, "The first game, what are the question marks going in four days out when you're thinking about that first game? What's in your head?"
Warren said, "You've still got a lot of question marks, most likely. You know what you're going to do with your kids. You know who's starting where, but you still have some battles going on, and a lot of these coaches will keep that pressure on these kids all the way up until district play. You treat non-district in preparation for district play. Some of them have two weeks to get ready. Others have four or five weeks, so that right there makes it a little different for these coaches."
Robinett said, "But, more fun than the weeks where you don't have a game?"
Warren answered, "Absolutely! This is what they've worked for. They've been busting their tail since January for this week. It's the pay off. Those coaches worked all weekend to prepare for an opponent, which is fun for the coaches, and the kids are looking forward to all of the things that surround game week. It's a great week. Opening week of high school football season is tremendous! You can't get any better."
