The Abilene High Eagles are coming off another playoff season, but they lost in the first round last year; however, half of the team is back for head coach Del Van Cox this season.
The returners remember how bad a first round loss felt, but side note, the last time Abilene High lost in the first round of the playoffs, they won a state title the very next year.
Anyway, the 2016 team is ready for the new year.
"Our guys and coaches have put in tremendous amount of hours to get ready for this upcoming season, and now we get to reap the benefits of all the hard work since January," Cox said. "Now, we get to play games for real, and it's going to be fun. Having to go over things like new coverages, and so forth, week by week, it's kind of the fun thing. You get to learn how we are going to shape our offense, and what we're going to shape our defense with."
The Eagles are on the road to start the season where they'll face former district rival San Angelo Central at San Angelo Stadium on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
