David Robinett talks to Cooper head coach Todd Moebes about his team's season opener against Keller.
David Robinett said, "Coach Moebes, it's game week. I know it's a good time for the players. They're energized. I figure the coaches, as well. How exciting is it to finally get a game?"
Cooper head coach Todd Moebes said, "I think it's exciting. It's what our guys work all offseason for is to go out and compete and play football against somebody else. This is one of ten that we are certainly guaranteed. Our players certainly have a pep in their step. Coaches, this is when we get an opportunity to get together and get in a room and game plan and see how we can exploit the other teams weaknesses."
Robinett asked, "How much does the environment change when you are preparing for an actual game rather than practicing to practice?"
Coach Moebes said, "I'd be lying to say to there wasn't a change, but there doesn't need to be. Regardless of whether your doing Spring ball in may or sitting there preparing for a game this week, it needs to be same. It is a little different. The sense of urgency is a little bit more. In May, you've got time. You've go two-a-days. Here we are on Tuesday and we are playing in a couple of days."
Robinett said, "High expectations this year. I would imagine every year there are high expectations inside the program, but people outside the program have them this year. Is it nice to know that people think highly of this team?"
Coach Moebes said, "Sure! I hope so. There's a good buzz around. People feel positive about the job that we're doing, and the way we are going forward. What matters is what's in this field house and the job we are doing to prepare our guys and being able to execute on Friday." >>
The Cougars open the season at home on Friday night against new Abilene High rival Keller at 7:30 p.m.
You can see a taped replay of the game on Saturday at 11 a.m. on KTAB.
