David Robinett talks to Abilene High head coach Del Van Cox about his team's opener against San Angelo Central.
David Robinett said, "It's time. Football is here in just a couple of days. Tell me how good it feels to know that the season is finally here."
AHS head coach Del Van Cox said, "Just getting back into the groove of the football season is awesome. These guys have put countless hours of work into getting themselves ready for this coming season. It's time the reap the benefits of the hard work, and we're looking forward to seeing how we progress."
Robinett said, "You guys left the playoffs early, and I know that wasn't in the plan. How much as that motivated this team to do better?"
Coach Cox said, "Hopefully, it motivates them to pay attention to detail. I know it's made me pay attention to detail. You just can't ever relax one play. Hopefully, that's the lesson learned and take it and move on."
Robinett asked, "You've spent a couple of week's with these guys here in the Summer. What have you seen in them that makes you feel good?"
Coach Cox said, "I think that we've got lots of two way players that learned both sides of the ball. We had a great 7-on-7 summer. Coach Galloway, Joe Galloway, did a great job of leading our kids in the summer. Our kids did a great job of getting themselves better on our offensive and defensive skills. The work that they put in in the Summer is going to be an added bonus."
The Eagles start the new season on Friday night.
They take on former district rival San Angelo Central at 7:30 p.m. at San Angelo Stadium.
