Lightening Delay Cuts Cooper Game Short

Cooper opened their season Friday night in the Champions Classic at Shotwell Stadium against Keller.

The Cougars started out a little bit rough when they fumbled the opening kickoff, and Keller took advantage. They complete a touchdown pass to Brayden Miller as the Indians took an early 7-0 lead.

Cooper didn't sit back though, they had an answer on their next drive.

Austin Smith connects with Juwan Hong who goes the distance. The point after was no good, so Keller maintains a 7-6 lead.

Later on in the quarter, Keller attempted a field goal, but the Cougars make a huge block holding Keller to a 1 point lead, and then the Coogs continued to fight.

They marched down the field, and Tyrees Whitfield runs it up the gut for a three-yard touchdown. Cooper takes the lead 13-7.

On Cooper's next possession they marched it down the field again!

A screen pass to Devin Johnson from Ender Freeman gets it down to the five, and that led to a touchdown, and Cooper led 20-7.

Another big special teams play by the Cougars happened in the second quarter.

Keller tries the fake punt, but Cooper was paying attention. They knock teh ball down and take over on downs.

That play led to a field goal that put the Coogs up 23-14 at the half.

The second half started out great for the Cougars. Keller had a bad snap over the punter's head, and that set the offense up at the 4-yard line.

Three plays later, Tyrees Whitfield punched it in for Cooper for his second touchdown of the game, and Cooper led 30-14, but then the rain and lightening interrupted play.

After several lightening delays, the game was called, and Cooper finished their season opener leading 23-14.
