The Abilene Christian Wildcats are set to begin the fourth and final year of transition into NCAA FCS football this weekend. The Wildcats have been working since early this month to get ready for Saturday's opener against the Air Force Academy. It's almost time to get the season started, and the coach and the players are ready to go.
"You're going to have to play well, you're going to have to play disciplined against these guys because they feed on people that are undisciplined," Coach Ken Collums said. "It'll be over in the first half against people that are undisciplined for them."
"So you have to take a deep breath, trust your training, do your job, and if we can do that hopefully we'll be able to slow them down enough to where we can score enough points and play consistently enough on offense to be able to compete with them. And we know that and we honor what we do, we really respect what they do, but for three hours on Saturday we're going to get after them."
ACU is trying to win the opener for the first time since 2013. The Wildcats are headed to Colorado Springs on Friday for Saturday's game with the Air Force, and they'll kick off at 1.
