Another good matchup was in Wall as the 4th ranked Cisco Loboes visited the 11th ranked Wall Hawks.
Scoreless in the first quarter, but Ryan Walling is looking for his guy. He heaves it down field to find Tymber Carr in the endzone, and the Hawks lead 7-0.
It's second and goal in the second quarter for Cisco. Kase Gayle gets the short pass to Seth Allen who runs it in for the touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good, so Wall leads 7-6.
Later, it was first and goal for Wall, and Walling keeps it for the touchdown. They try a two-point conversion and fail, but still lead 13-6.
The Loboes are handed their first loss of the season in a one-point game with Wall 19-18.
The Ballinger Bearcats took on Grape Creek in the Concho Valley Friday night, and the scoring happened right away.
Grape Creek received the opening kickoff, and that was it. Juan Buenrostro escaped the coverage team and was off for the touchdown as the Eagles take a 7-0 lead.
On the very next Eagle possession, Austin Barron scrambled and heaved it deep to a wide open Seth Mitchell downfield. Mitchell did the rest from there as Grape Creek took a 14-0 lead.
This was a high scoring one, but it's Grape Creek who comes away with the 55-30 win over Ballinger.
Over in Tuscola, Jim Ned hosted 2A Division I power Goldthwaite, and it didn't start out well for Jim Ned.
The Indians received the opening kickoff but then on that drive, a bad snap, and Dillon McCoy tries to pick up the ball but he can't. The Eagles recover, and that turnover led to a Goldthwaite touchdown.
Later in the first more bad news for Jim Ned. Jacob Contreras with the reception, but the Eagles knock the ball loose and it's recovered by Kyle Schwartz. That turnover led to a Goldthwaite field goal. The Eagles lead 10-0.
Finally the Indians got something going at the end of the first and start of the second. Coalby Rives takes the handoff and drives his way up the middle and into the endzone for a Jim Ned touchdown and it's 10-7.
The Indians kept it close, but the Eagles come away victorious winning 24-20.
The Hawley Bearcats got to stay at home this week, and they hosted Bangs.
The Bearcats got started early in the first quarter when Quay Stokes connected with wide receiver Saxon Jones for a Bearcat touchdown early in the game.
The Dragons fumbled on their first drive giving the Bearcats another scoring opportunity which made it 13-0 Hawley, but a few minutes later Stokes hit Shane Guerra witha huge 45-yard touchdown pass which put the Bearcats up 20-0 at the end of the first half.
Hawley steamrolled Bangs 56-7 for a big home opener win.
No. 19 Hamlin was in the land of the Badgers in Merkel Friday night.
Pick it up in the last minute of the first quarter when Angel Salas took the handoff and ran through a few Hamlin defenders to take it in for the score. They missed the extra point, and that made it 6-0 Badgers.
In the second quarter, Hamlin quarterback Ayron Wagner launched the ball to Luis Hernandez. He got the touchdown for the Pied Pipers, and that brought the score to 7-6 Pied Pipers leading.
Hamlin scored one more time to end the half leading 14-6, and they added more to it.
The Badgers fall 35-12 to Hamlin at home.
A couple more 3A/2A matchups. Early taking on the Roscoe Plowboys for their 2016 Homecoming game.
Roscoe was in teh redzone on fourth down, and Brayden Beal took the snap, looked right and found Jose Ortega wide open for a Plowboy touchdown.
Later in the first quarter, Beal and Ortega hook up again with a fade route to the endzone as Ortega holds on for his second touchdown of the game.
Roscoe's offense socred 41 unanswered points before Early even got on the board. They take this one 41-20.
