David Robinett talks with Abilene High head coach Del Van Cox about his team's victory over Midland Lee and the upcoming Crosstown Showdown.
David Robinett said, "Well, Coach Cox, man, good Friday for you guys. You get a big victory over Midland Lee. You really came out fast, too. It seemed like your players were ready to go and ready to show the week before was a fluke."
AHS head coach Del Van Cox said, "Our guys were very motivated to redeem themselves and make sure to let everyone know that they were not the team that showed up Week 1. It was definitely a great team win."
Robinett said, "How important is a quick start like that? You get the big kick return and score on the first offensive play. I guess, considering the week prior."
Coach Cox said, "Our team chaplain, Chad Mitchell talked about a since of urgency and our kids played with a since of urgency, and it showed. That's what you've got to do if you want to be successful in this game of football."
Robinett said, "Now the Crosstown Showdown. It's non-district. Most non-district games are not very important, but across town, I think this think is kind of important."
Coach Cox said, "It's a great deal for the community. It's all about bragging rights, right now. We're in two different districts, so it's about who gets to have the bragging rights for the rest of the year. Those kids grow up and they go to church together, so it's a very prideful thing for the whole community."
