    Showdown is Next for Cooper

Cooper comes into the 56th annual Crosstown Showdown on a bit of downer.

They lost for the first time this season on Friday night to Grapevine, 61-7.

Now it's time for the most important, unimportant game of the year.

The Cougars game with Abilene High is a non-district game for the 5th time in 9 years, but it's different than most non-district games.

Head coach Todd Moebes, "I mean there's a handful of communities around the state of Texas that get to play in something like this. We're blessed to be a part of it and get to play in it. To have 12 or 15-hundred that come out to one high school football game is extremely unique. It's fun to be a part of It gets you ready for the bigger games that are coming down the road. You certainly have got to embrace that fact."

The Crosstown Showdown is Friday night at Shotwell Stadium.

Cooper leads the overall series, 32-22-1.

Abilene High has won four of the last five.

    They kickoff at 7:30.
