The ACU Wildcats were the first Big Country university to take the field this season, and they were the first to record a loss. The Wildcats lost to FBS Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, but they did put a good fight before falling 37-21. So, what did the ACU coaches learn about the team after the first week of the season?
Coach Ken Collums said, "these guys can handle a hostile environment like that, which is good. It is the essence of competition up there. We got thousands of cadets sitting right behind us, fussing at us, and our guys for the most part played well. They didn't play well the entire time, but another thing that I brought out of this game is that we were down at half, and they were able to take a deep breath, step back, get over the fact that they were upset about being down 28-7, and they were able to take what we gave them and they went out there and did it, and we outplayed them in the third quarter."
The Wildcats are at home for the first time this season on Saturday night at Shotwell Stadium. They host Northern Colorado on family weekend at 6 PM.
