    Cowboys Take Texas Lutheran, 48-38

    ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' football team beat Texas Lutheran 48-38 in front of a rowdy crowd Saturday afternoon at Shelton Stadium.



    HSU jumped on the board with 14 points in the first quarter. Reese Childress scored on a 21-yard pass from Ryan Breton to cap a three-play 17-yard drive after Austin Dooley blocked a punt.



    Jaquan Hemphill then found a seam and outran the defense for an 84-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0. Breton found Childress wide open for a 51-yard touchdown with a 11:28 to play in the first half to make it 21-0.



    Zach Galindo then threw back-to-back touchdown passes for TLU. He hit Jekovan Holmes got 24 yards and Tri-Rice Van Buren for 83 yards over the middle. Chadd Brown's 27-yard field goal with :24 to play in the half to cut it to 21-17.



    HSU scored back-to-back touchdowns in the first two series of the second half to push the lead to 35-17. Breton found Alex Bell on a 25-yard pass and found Childress for the third time from 29 yards out after a lengthy scramble.



    Galindo hit Holmes for another 11-yard touchdown pass and Breton responded with a 1-yard touchdown run to make it 42-24 with :56 to play in the third quarter.



    Galindo sandwiched touchdown passes of two yards to J.B. Brown and eight yards to Marquis Barrolle around a 24-yard Breton touchdown to Alex Bell.



    Hemphill finished the day with 151 yards on the ground in his first collegiate start. HSU had 223 yards rushing. Breton completed 17-of-29 passes for 279 yards and five touchdowns. Childress had nine catches for 153 yards and three more scores. Bell had four catches for 111 yards and two scores.



    Barrolle had 143 yards on 29 rushes and Galindo was 22-of-31 passing for 265 yards and five touchdowns. TLU had 480 yards of offense and the Cowboys had 502 yards of offense.



    Cory Ward had a monster day for the Cowboy defense with 16 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. Josh White added 14 tackles. Darian Candler had 14 tackles a sack and an interception.



    HSU is now 3-0 on the year and will host Sul Ross State in the American Southwest Conference opener next Saturday at 1 p.m. TLU fell to 0-4, against four ASC opponents to start the season.
