Abilene High Eagles, Head coach Del Van Cox and his team got the District 3-6A season off to a great start on Friday night with a 44-18 victory over Haltom.
The Eagles defense continues to show improvement each and every week. They were able to hold the Buffaloes offense to under 200 total yards and just three yards per rushing attempt. Growth like that will make the head coach very happy.
"Our defense is doing a great job of game planning and preparing themselves and getting themselves to where they can play fast. If you're scoring lots of points, it's because your defense is putting you in a position to do that," Cox said. "They're getting you the ball. They're getting you the ball back on their end of the field, and that's when you score lots of points is when your defense is doing a great job, and getting us some opportunities."
Abilene High continues district 3-6A play this week.
They host Keller Fossil Ridge on Friday night. The Panthers beat Timber Creek in their district opener.
