The Sweetwater Mustangs rolled past Lamesa 52-12 to clinch their 25th straight win and second district win.
For the first score of the game, Chris Thompson connected with Keenan Cox, and the Mustangs chose to go for two as they took a 8-0 lead.
On the next possession, Thompson scrambled and searched for a receiver, but decided to take it in himself for a touchdown. Sweetwater again went for two as they led 16-0.
Head coach Shane Mobley loved what he saw out of his quarterback.
"This year our receiving core is, last year we had Michael Lawrence, and so we have four or five receivers that come out, and Thompson he's just a miracle worker," Mobley said. "Tonight, you know, he's so much smarter and mature as he's growing because tonight he had a couple opportunities to throw the ball, and it was in pretty solid coverage. He made a move with his feet and still picked up yards that way, so our offense, we're able to move the ball in our h-back package and the spread so it was good."
Mobley was happy with the win, and all parts of his team's play including the defense.
"It was so much fun. Up front was a big question with our defensive line," Mobley said. "They did a great job tonight attacking in the trenches, so we were able to contain, so I was very very proud of them."
At the end of the first half, Sweetwater led 32-0, and in the second half there was a running clock.
The Mustangs are 2-0 in district as they clinch the 52-12 win.
