Eagles Crush Keller Fossil Ridge 45-16

The Abilene High Eagles are 2-0 in district after dominated Keller Fossil Ridge 45-16.

To say the Eagles jumped out to a fast start is an understatement. In the first half they scored two touchdowns in the first six minutes, and scored two more touchdowns in the first four minutes of the second half.

They jumped out to the 21-3 lead early, and head coach Del Van Cox stressed how important starting fast is.

"It was extremely important, and that's just a big part of football," Cox said. "If you can jump on somebody that early it kind of takes you out of your game plan a little bit, and you stop doing the things that you really like to do and start doing some other things, and that's just a huge part of football. If you can jump on them early it's a huge advantage."

The Eagle offense was very dominating including an 83 yard touchdown run from Peyton Killam. He was 10-18 passing with 117 yards.

Abram Smith had another big game too despite a minor ankle injury in the first half. Smith had 146 rushing yards, and that puts him at number three on the Abilene High all time rushing list, and that's quite and accomplishment and helps the AHS offense.

"Coach Lewis is a good running backs coach right now," Cox said. "He's got Abram in his stall, so it's definitely very advantageous to have him in the backfield and be able to hand him the ball and know what he's going to do."

One more stat. The Eagles were actually outgained by 137 yards, but Abilene High still finished with the big 45-16 win.
