The Abilene High Eagles played their third district game against Keller Central on Friday, and the Eagles came to win.
They started a little bit slow in the beginning, something the Eagles were trying to avoid against the fast paced Chargers this week.
"They came out with a different defense than we're usually prepared for, it's a blitzing defense so it took a little bit for our kids to pick up on their blitzes so I think our kids did a good job," head coach Del Van Cox said.
"It worked out just like we told them, they were going to hit us early and once we figured out where they'd be blitzing from we'd be alright."
After they got used to the blitzing from the Chargers defense, the Eagles offense took up their usual explosive approach.
Abram Smith had two touchdowns in the first half, and his yardage on those helped him to pass Herschel Sims' rushing record of 3,909 yards, bringing Smith the title of the "Second Most Career Rushing Yards" in Abilene High history.
"He's a phenomenal back and I'm glad he's on our team," Cox said of Smith.
"Herschel was here so he got to see it firsthand, so it was definitely fun for him to be here and watch that performance."
Friday night's win brings the Eagles their third win in district 3-6A, and keeps AHS's momentum rolling.
Cox, "That's the main thing, getting to the fourth week 3-0, gotta make sure we get ourselves ready for one more win before our bye week."
In the end, the Eagles come out on top 52-20 and continue their six game win streak.
