    Cougars Manage Playoff Nerves

The Cooper Cougars used big plays and another great defensive performance to top Dumas and advance to the area round of the class 5A Division II playoffs on Friday night.

One big country coach told us nerves are part of the first round regardless of how many times you've been to the third season. Cooper coach Todd Moebes said his guys did a good job of managing those nerves in the first round.

Moebes said, "I think the first round of the playoffs is always difficult because everybody's played ten games and then you're going into game eleven. The reality of the playoffs, in that you are one and done, until after the first round. We have to say there were 64 teams that started in the playoffs and now there's only 32. Those 32 that aren't playing anymore are cleaning up their stuff , and they aren't going to play another football game until August."

The Cougars next opponent is undefeated Canutillo. The Eagles aren't officially from El Paso, but Cooper is undefeated against teams from far West Texas.
