The Abilene High Eagles rolled over Arlington High, 65-36, to advance to area round of the playoffs. El Paso Americas is next for the Eagles.
The El Paso teams are not typically that much of problem for schools in our part of the world. As a matter of fact, the Eagles are 20-1 against El Paso. You might think that lead to over-confidence, but head coach Del Van Cox not to worry about that.
Cox said, "I don't think you worry about that. You've got to focus more on us. It's no different if you are playing the number one team in the state, or the last team in the state. You've got to make sure you are getting yourself better. We've told our kids that, and we've preached that to them for the last ten weeks. Our kids know what's at stake, and they know that they are trying to get themselves to the next round. They've got five more wins to get, and they're trying to get the first of the five."
The Eagles play for their 22nd win in 23 tries against an El Paso school on Friday night.
Note the time in this one, Abilene High and Americas meet at 6 p.m. at Shotwell Stadium.
