The Abilene High Eagles are back in the 3rd round of the playoffs.
Abilene High rolled over El Paso Americas on Friday night to advance to the third round. The Eagles offense is getting a lot of the attention this year, but the defensive front really stepped up last week.
They held the Trailblazers to just 7 yards rushing and were constantly harassing the quarterback. They laid the ground work for the Eagles rout.
Del Van Cox said, "When you've got a good running back like they had, it all starts up front. Coy McMillon and Noah Perez and Riley Madrid did a great job of fitting in some holes, and freeing up our linebackers to make some plays, and you can't say enough about what those guys did to control that running back. They don't get all of the press, but that's where it's all won down there in those trenches. Some good technique taught by Coach Duwes, and they're reading their keys, and they're doing a great job."
That Eagles "D" gets a bigger test this week against number three Desoto on Friday.
They meet in Wichita Falls at 6 p.m.
