    Cougars are Playing Relaxed

Cooper started district play kind of in a slump. They were 2 and 3 in district. Nothing was really working, but that's all changed.

Head coach Cody Salyers said, "They kind of finally started to relax instead of pushing and pressing so much, and you know the talent's been there it was just kind of the mental side that we had to work on, and I think they're relaxing and having fun now."

Baseball is 90-percent mental, and when you're off your mental game it's hard to make anything work, so now that the Coogs have their confidence back, they're stringing hits together, and everything's clicking.

Ender Freeman said, "There's more confidence. Especially, you know, when you see one person get a hit, the next guy going up knows, hey I can hit this man. Now we got this confidence, and it's like we're unstoppable at the plate."

"Whenever we go up to the box we feel really relaxed," Isaac Hatter said. "In the dugout we're alive, we're loud, we're talking. There's no one sitting down. There's no one not in the game."

The guys are riding a 5 game winning streak, and Coach Salyers says that now, the team doesn't have the, "I HAVE to mentallity" anymore, now it's relaxed, but they have to make sure not to be too relaxed.

Salyers said, "It's easy to kind of lose focus whenever you get a little too goofy or a little too relaxed maybe sometimes, but at the same time we don't want to press and try to do too much, so it's one of those deals, just find a good balance of being able to have fun but still focus and work hard."

Freeman said, "We're not going to start trying to press too hard and think that, oh we're on this winning streak we have to keep winning every game, but we're also not going to relax and say, oh we got it now."

So now what? How do the Coogs plan to keep everything positive they have right now through the rest of the season?

Andrew Benson said, "Really lead off batter. The first batter of the game, you know whatever he does, typically it's Terreon, whatever he does really sets the mood. Whatever we're doing in the dugout the first inning. Whatever we do on the field in the first inning, it all helps."

The players have really taken it upon themselves to get the job done, and they plan to see it all the way through.
