LONDON, England - McMurry University sophomore Tanner Wright (Ft. Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) ran a time of 22.31 seconds to win his preliminary heat and advance to the finals of the T47 class of the 200 meters at the World Para Athletics Championships at Olympic Stadium. Wright will run for a medal in the 200 finals on Saturday (July 22) at 1:40 p.m. CT.

Wright had the second-fastest qualifying time, overall, in winning what was the quickest heat. Brazil's Petrucio Ferriera dos Santos - who set a world record in the 100 meters earlier in the competition - topped the entire 200-meter group with a 22.17, but was the only runner in Heat 2 with a sub 23-second time. In Wright's Heat 1, five of the six competitors ran a 23.00 or better.

Wright's clocking in the 200 was also the second-best of his brief collegiate career. His personal-best time was a 21.99 seconds at the American Southwest Conference preliminaries.

Wright finished fourth in the 100-meter dash earlier in the Championships. Wright is also expected to run the lead leg of the Team U.S.A. 4x100 relay entry, which competes on Sunday (July 23, the last day of the competition) at 1:30 p.m.
