Sweetwater preps for encore to 2016

SWEETWATER, Texas -- The Sweetwater Mustangs are back on the field where they belong. Sweetwater returns 5 starters on both sides of the ball, and they're ready to tackle the 2017 season.
Kobe Clark said, "It starts off in practice. We just gotta keep grinding in practice, work hard every week through the games, play hard. That's all you gotta do."
Chris Thompson said, "We're just going to have to pick up where we left off last year and get the younger kids to buy in and once we do that we'll be rolling."
Last year the Sweetwater Mustangs had one of the most impressive runs in school history with a trip to the state championship. This year they're looking to do more of the same under new head coach Ben McGehee.
Thompson said, "I like him, he's probably my favorite. He's always excited and energetic."
McCoy said, "They bring a lot of excitement and a good vibe, they're big motivators."
Clark said, "He's cool. He makes us work hard. The other coaches, they were great too, but these new coaches, they're really trying to make us work, grind, and every day we just grind for them."
Coach McGehee brings a whole new offense and defense, and he's impressed with how quickly his team has learned the new schemes.
Ben McGehee said, "We're bringing a lot of new terminology and a lot of different things that they haven't seen or maybe done in the past so their coachibility has been the biggest asset for us so far because going forward it's a lot of learning and these kids are doing a great job listening to what we do, what we tell them to do, and moving forward with it."
Even with a brand new coaching staff, Texas Football Magazine has the Mustangs ranked tenth in 4A Division II.
