Ashford ready to help Throckmorton win in 2017

In 6-man football, the Throckmorton Greyhounds took the field Monday with a brand new head coach and a renewed since of excitement in the program.

Former Paint Creek head coach Aaron Ashford takes over the program up north, and he takes over a Throckmorton team that had an unusual 3-7 record and missed the postseason.

Fourteen lettermen are back from that team, and Ashford likes what he's seen in his new team.

Ashford said, "I like Throckmorton, yes. A really good tradition, as you know. A really sound tradition. I'm coming into a group of guys that are really hard workers. They want to get back on that winning side. I want to help them get back on that winning side, so I think the chemistry is going to be really good."

The Greyhounds are picked to win district 10-A division II this year.

They are by far the most experienced team in the district with five starters back on offense and four on defense. They open the new season on August 31st against Ropes in Jayton.
