Rangers Trade Jonathan Lucroy to Rockies

Arlington, Texas -- The Texas Rangers tonight announced that the club has traded catcher Jonathan Lucroy to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for a player to be named later.

Lucroy has batted .242 with 4 home runs and 27 RBI in 77 games with the Rangers this season, making a team-high 65 starts behind the plate as well as 10 starts as the designated hitter. He has thrown out 13 of 44 attempted base stealers, and leads all MLB catchers with 159 runners caught stealing since 2011. Acquired by Texas in an August 1, 2016 trade with Milwaukee, Lucroy finished a nearly year-long stint with the Rangers having batted .254 with 15 home runs and 58 RBI in 124 contests for the club.

Earlier today, the Rangers received infielder Tyler Smith on a waiver claim from the Seattle Mariners and optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock. Smith, 26, made his major league debut with the Mariners this season, going 3-for-16 with a double and walk in 10 games.

After today's transactions, the Rangers have 38 players on the club's major league roster along with five players on the 60-day disabled list.
