AHS head coach Del Van Cox talks to David Robinett about his team's loss to San Angelo Central.
David Robinett said, "Coach Cox, a loss is never good, but you actually won the second half, and it looked like the guys really turned it around and got their sea legs under them."
AHS head coach Del Van Cox said, "I think the speed of the game was shocking for them in the first half, but they adjusted well and came back. Our kids did a great job in the second half of playing liek they know they are capable of playing. That was one of the big lessons that we learned. We caught a glimpse of what we can be like, so now it's time to get better."
Robinett said, "Another good sign from a young football team is that when they were overwhelmed in the first half by the speed of the game and what was happening to them, they didn't give up, and they didn't quit. They just kept plugging along and didn't get down on themselves."
Coach Cox said, "That's Abilene kids. They're going to play hard no matter what the score is. If you keep playing hard, we were able to get it back to one score a couple of times. They saw what they can do and what they can do now. Now we are veterans. We are ready to go."
Robinett said, "You've go to build on that. I guess the work for that's already started."
Coach Cox said, "We talked about paying attention to the details, and they understand that now. They understand a lot more this week than last week. It's a learning experience, a learning process, so we want to better this week than we were last week."
Abilene High continues the season on Friday night with a road game against Midland Lee. The Rebels won their opener.
The Eagles won eight of the last ten meetings between the two schools.
