The Sweetwater Mustangs opened district play with a dominating 63-40 victory over previously undefeated Pecos.
The game was supposed to be a test for first year head coach Ben McGehee's Mustangs, and if it was, I think they passed with flying colors.
The win was nice, but there wasn't a district title on the line.
The work continues at the Mustang Bowl.
Daniel Avila said, "I mean we came Saturday morning. We celebrated the win, and then we got right back to work. That's what it's going to take. We're going to have to take every game 1-0 and just keep fighting."
Ben McGehee said, "It feels good. You know we had a long road trip out to Pecos, and so that's kind of difficult to manage at times, and I thought our kids handled it well. I thought the offense played great the whole game. I think we scored nine out of 11 possessions, so that's a pretty good stat."
District play continues for the Mustangs when they return to the Mustang Bowl to face Lamesa on Friday night. They kickoff at 7.
