AHS Conversation: Tough loss to Haltom

David Robinett said, "Coach Cox, tough loss to open district, one point. How do you get your guys back up? Those are the kinds of games that are hard to get over. How do you get them back up this week?"
Abilene High head coach Del Van Cox said, "You've got to challenge them. They've got to have pride in what they do, and when you work this hard, you've just got to keep working. It's times like that this is when your character shows. All our kids have good character, so we expect them to work hard and keep after it."
Robinett said, "What did you see? I saw a good football game between two evenly matched teams. What did you see? Where could that one or two points come from?
Coach Cox said, "We had a couple of opportunities. Zipped up and down the field and turned it over on downs. We could get better there. We could get better tackling and had our opportunities and made a couple of mistakes that we couldn't recover from."
Robinett said, "Now, you've got to move on. You've got a road game against an undefeated team. Where's the challenge with Fossil Ridge?
Coach Cox said, "Everywhere is the challenge. They've got a great team. Coach Baccarini does a great job. They're really good in the defensive line, so we have to make sure we are maintaining blocks. They've got another good running quarterback, so we are definitely working on that, again this week and correcting the errors that we made last week."
