    Cowgirls Advance With Thrilling Comeback Over Trinity

    ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons’ women’s soccer team pulled off a dramatic rally to beat arch-rival Trinity 3-2 in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship.
    Evan Pipkin headed home a ball with :54 after Kenne Kessler headed a corner to Kami Jones who one touched to Pipkin on the back post.
    “We have had a long tradition of just being a team that battles,” said head coach Marcus Wood. “That is what we did today. We left everything out there and it just takes your breath away when you get the equalizer and then again when Evan finds the net.”
    “She is not the person you probably expect to do that, but she made a play she will remember for the rest of her life.”
    The Cowgirls had trailed since midway through the first half when Trinity took a 2-1 lead on a Meredith Licata goal.
    At the 81:39 mark, Kessler scored her 37th goal of the season on an assist from Kirsten Parrish. It came off a corner kick to tie the game.
    Trinity struck first in the evenly played game as they scored an own goal just 3:27 into the game. Parrish headed home a corner in the 12th minute from Josey Meyer to tie the game.
    HSU had 10 shots and eight shots on goal in the game. Trinity had nine shots with seven of them on goal.
    Caitlin Christiansen earned the win in goal with five saves. Kalli Douma took the loss and she also had five saves.
    HSU is now 21-0 on the year and Trinity closes the season at 19-2. HSU will play Carnegie Mellon in the Sectional round and the site is yet to be determined.
