The Merkel Badgers pulled off one of the bigger surprises of the first round in the area by beating Breckenridge last week.
Now, they are playing on Thanksgiving week for the first time since 2012.
Getting to this point is every team's goal, and the Badgers and head coach John Cornelius know it's something special.
John Cornelius said, "Anytime you can play on that holiday it's a special moment and memory. Our first goal was to win a gold ball, and we did that, and we had our meeting and did our scouting report for this week, and they're focused and their mentality is, we've got a lot of unfinished business left for us, and it's exciting to get back to that round, and to get our program back on the map to being relevant again, and now, we're just going to see where we can go from here."
The Badgers continue the playoffs on Friday in Childress against 5-6 Muleshoe.
