David Robinett said, "It's time for more Warren's Wisdom. Former Abilene High head coach Steve Warren joining me. We are talking about how Cooper has struggled in the third round. A lot of teams do. Cooper hasn't been past the third round since 2000. How tough is it to get past this round?"
Steve Warren said, "It's extremely tough. You are talking about 16 teams left and any one of those 16 teams are good enough to win a state championship. Typically, it somebody coming back from the Metroplex. Most of those teams are loaded with athletes. You do some things to try to get them off course a little bit, like coach Moebes has done by getting them here at Shotwell on Friday night. What a great move for them, and what a great opportunity for the fans of Abilene to go out and see two great teams playing."
Robinett said, "Making a team like Aledo travel, they don't travel much until later in the playoffs. Making them travel on a school day seems like a good move."
Warren said, "No doubt. It's one thing that you can do as a coach to control things a little bit. You take the chance of traveling, but those of us out here in West Texas, that doesn't bother our kids. We're set up to travel. If you can get them out of their comfort zone a little bit, maybe that gives you an edge somewhere down the line."
We're gonna find out. Cooper hosts #1 Aledo at 7:30 Friday night.
