    ASC honors McMurry's Hunter

RICHARDSON, Texas - McMurry University senior women's basketball standout Sham Hunter (Abilene, Texas/Abilene H.S.) has been named as the American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week, it has been announced by the league office.

Hunter won the Player of the Week award for the third time in her career – and the first time in 2017-18 - as she averaged 20.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocks per game in a pair of War Hawks victories. She came up with 18 points and 14 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals for her second double-double of the year in a 76-61 win against Ozarks.

Hunter guided McMurry to its fourth-straight win with 23 points, six boards and two assists in Saturday's 83-73 win against UT Tyler, in what was a battle of the ASC's unbeaten divisional leaders. Hunter shot 52.2 percent (12-for-23) from the field, 4-for-5 from three-point range and was 13-for-16 at the line.

On the year, Hunter has started all eight games for the 5-3 McM squad. She is averaging 9.8 points and a team-leading 8.1 rebounds per game. She is also shooting a healthy 50.0 percent from three-point range (7-14) and is averaging 3.1 assists per game, as well.
