BCH Sports 2017 teams of the year

The high school football season is over for the Big Country, and that means it's time for us to hand out the Big Country Homepage.com post season awards. We start with the Teams of the Year.
Starting with the Class 6A/5A/4A Team of the Year, the Cooper Cougars. Head coach Todd Moebes and his Cougars advanced to the 3rd round of the playoffs for the eighth time in the last ten years, and they used a record setting offense to get it done. Quarterback Ender Freeman became the single season leader at Cooper with over 3,500 yards passing. Running back Tyrees Whitfield gained over 2-thousand yards and set the school record for touchdowns in a season with 40. He broke the record by seven touchdowns. Receiver Myller Royals holds the career and single season record for receptions, and career and single season record for receiving yards. The Cooper Cougars are the Class 6A/5A/4A Team of the Year.
The Comanche Indians did something no Comanche team has done in over 6 decades, and they are the Class 3A Team of the Year. Head coach Stephen Hermesmeyer spent five years building a culture in Comanche, and 2017 was the year it paid off. The Indians won their second straight district crown, and then they began their historic run in the playoffs. Comanche won three playoff games in the same season for the first time since 1953. Dwight Eisenhower was president, gas cost 28 cents a gallon, and the Dallas Cowboys were still eight years from existing. It was a great run, and the Indians are the Class 3A Team of the Year.
This one was a no-brainer. The Albany Lions are the Class 2A/A team of the year. The Lions spent the entire 2017 season ranked number one or number two in Class 2A Division II. They won district for the tenth year in a row. They won 10 or more games for the 10th year in a row. 2017 ended sooner than they wanted, but it was another great season for the Lions. Mr. Texas Football finalist Brian Hamilton led the way on offense as the quarterback and on defense as a defensive back. Denney Faith pushed his career win total to 290. That leads all active head coaches in Class 4A, 3A, and 2A. The Albany Lions are the Class 2A/A Team of the Year.
