ABILENE, Texas - McMurry University softball head coach David McNally has unveiled the school’s first-ever game scheduled, debuting in the spring of 2018. The slate features 40 games overall, 17 of which will be home contests for the War Hawks.
McMurry will be playing its home games at Abilene’s Red Bud Park (Field 1) until an on-campus facility is constructed.
The War Hawks are scheduled to play the first-ever games in the history of the program at Red Bud on Friday, February 2, with a doubleheader versus Trinity University. The contests are non-conference games for McM. Those games will be followed by another non-league twinbill against Southwestern University on Feb. 9.
Of local interest will be a pair of home-and-home games versus Hardin-Simmons University (not counted as American Southwest Conference games this year due to the ASC scheduling in 2018). McM will head to the north side on Feb 13, with the Cowgirls coming to Red Bud Park on March 13.
The War Hawks’ fledgling program will be diving into its American Southwest Conference schedule of games in a big way on Feb. 16-17. McM will bring one of the top teams in NCAA Division III to Abilene by hosting the University of Texas-Tyler. UTT finished third in the nation in 2017 and won the 2016 NCAA III national championship. The two schools will play a Friday afternoon doubleheader and a single game on Saturday.
Other schools coming to Abilene for three-game ASC series include: the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (March 9-10), Belhaven University (March 23-24) and the University of Texas-Dallas (April 20-21). The War Hawks’ ASC road series will be at: Concordia-Texas (March 2-3); Sul Ross State (March 16-17); Louisiana College (March 29-30); Howard Payne (Apr. 6-7); East Texas Baptist University (Apr. 13-14), and; University of the Ozarks (Apr. 27-28).
In addition to traveling to HSU, McMurry plays a non-league doubleheader at Schreiner University (Feb. 24) and at the University of Dallas (March 20).
