Arlington, Texas — Texas Rangers left-handed pitcher Martin Perez underwent arthroscopic surgery late Monday afternoon to repair a broken right radial head in his right (non-throwing) elbow.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Thomas Diliberti in Dallas and went as expected. Dr. Diliberti removed the fragmented pieces and replaced the radial head. Perez had immediate range of motion in the elbow and is expected to be able to start throwing in three to four weeks. He is expected to be sidelined from game action for approximately four months.
Perez sustained the injury in an accident at his ranch in his native Venezuela on December 11. He will return to Venezuela later this week and is expected to undergo rehab and a throwing program in Arlington after the first of the year before reporting to spring training camp in February.
The left-hander was 13-12 with a 4.82 ERA in 32 starts for Texas in 2017.
