    HSU women fall to UT Dallas 59-47

    RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons’ women’s basketball team fell 59-47 to UT Dallas in American Southwest Conference action on Monday evening at the UTD Activities Center.
    UTD used an 11-1 run to end the first quarter to take a 19-6 lead. The Comets eventually led 37-14 in the second quarter before the Cowgirls started to chip away.
    HSU used a 15-4 run from the final 2:31 of the second quarter to the 4:12 mark of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 41-29 on a driving layup by Jesyka Lee. UTD then pushed the lead back to 20 points at 50-30.
    In the fourth quarter, the Cowgirls made another push and cut the UTD lead to 11 but could get no closer.
    The Cowgirls had a tough shooting night hitting just 31.9 percent from the field and went 14-of-23 at the free throw line. The Cowgirl defense limited the Comets to 37.3 percent shooting in the game.
    Danie Mabry led the Cowgirl attack with 11 points and Jasmine McClellan added nine. Victoria Pena led UTD with 19 points and Mia Spennato added 14.
    The Cowgirls are now 3-6 on the year and 1-3 in American Southwest Conference action. UTD improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
