    Hardin Simmons' split day with LeTourneau

    Cowboys Fall To LeTourneau:

    ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons’ men’s basketball team couldn’t slow down LeTourneau in an 87-59 American Southwest Conference loss on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex.
    The Yellow Jackets never trailed in the game as they scored the first five points and quickly pushed the lead out to 15-5. The Cowboys were cold as they hit just 11-of-36 shots in the first half and went 0-for-9 at the free throw line.
    At the half, Letourneau led 43-27 and came out quickly in the second half and used a 13-4 run to push the lead to 56-31 with 16:05 to play.
    Joe Hoeup and Marcus Ellison led the Cowboys with eight points each.
    Caleb Loggins led LeTourneau with 21 points on 10-for-10 shooting. Caylab Herrera had 20 points.
    HSU is now 4-10 on the year and 2-4 in league play. LeTourneau is 11-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. HSU will host Mary Hardin-Baylor in the start of ASC West play on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

    Cowgirls Snap Skid With Win Over LeTourneau:

    ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons’ women’s basketball team beat LeTourneau 76-65 in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Saturday afternoon.
    LeTourneau took a 44-40 lead into halftime behind a 21-point half from guard Ashley Reed.
    In the second half, the Cowgirls limited Reed to six points and held LeTourneau to 21 points and were able to pull away for the victory.
    HSU used a 12-4 run to start the third quarter to take a 52-48 lead and closed the quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 61-56 lead into the final period and the run continued with four more points to start the fourth quarter. LeTourneau was never closer than six points the rest of the game.
    Addison Garcia led the Cowgirls with 20 points and Taylor Gaffney added 17. Freshman Karlea Ritchie had 10 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double.
    Reed led LeTourneau with 27 points and Keauna Whitfield added 20.
    The Cowgirls are now 4-9 on the year and 2-4 in conference play. LeTourneau fell to 3-10 overall and 0-6 in ASC action. HSU snapped a seven-game losing streak with the win.
    HSU will host Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday at 5:30 at the Mabee Complex.
