    AHS's Bryan honored by USTA

ORLANDO, F.L, January 22, 2018 – The United States Tennis Association (USTA) today announced its No-Cut Coach All-Star Team. Local high school coach Stacy Bryan of Abilene High School in Abilene, Tex., has been selected as a member of the team which recognizes exceptional high school coaches who implement an inclusive “no-cut” policy for their high school tennis team. Since 2013, the USTA has recognized coaches nationwide for their dedication and leadership in providing young players with the experience of representing their school.

Stacy Bryan is the head tennis coach at Abilene High School where she has coached for the past 13 years. She is a strong supporter of the no-cut policy and her team this year had 78 players (47 boys and 31 girls). Not only does Coach Bryan personally live by the AHS motto, “Connect. Lead. Succeed,” both on and off the court, but she also has dedicated her coaching career to see that her players live by those same standards.

“By providing more students the opportunity to play and represent their high school, No-Cut Coaches provide their players with a lasting impression of inclusion and what it truly means to be part of a team,” said Elliott Pettit, Director, USTA School Tennis. “We are proud to honor their contributions as these coaches play such a critical role in their players’ high school experience and in turn, in the future health of our sport.”

Since 2006, more than 4,000 tennis coaches nationwide have made a commitment to offering a no-cut policy, with some programs including more than 100 team members on a high school team.  The coaches of these teams make a difference by spending the extra time and effort to ensure that players experience the fun and fulfillment of playing tennis and participating in a school sport.

Coaches are nominated by their respective USTA section. To qualify for the USTA No-Cut All-Star Team, coaches must be currently implementing a no-cut policy on their teams, and be currently registered with the USTA as a “no-cut” coach. Additionally, each candidate must have at least five years of experience coaching tennis.
