A new tradition begins in the 2018 season when the Cooper Cougars take the field against the Wylie Bulldogs for the first time.
The Bulldogs move up to class 5A for the next two seasons made the game a possibility, and Coach Sandifer and Coach Moebes worked to make it a reality.
Todd Moebes said "Coach Sandifer and I talked about it and really it has to do as much with travel as anything else, You certainly play a non-district schedule that's going to get you prepared for the tough district that you're going to be in. The success that they've had over the years, the tradition that they've had, it speaks for itself."
Hugh Sandifer said "It will be a big step up for us to play them, but Todd and I are good friends, and we're just going to try to keep it where we get a close game and it will be exciting for the city. It will be a natural rivalry from the get-go."
The BCH Sports team is calling this the South Town Showdown, with Mary Margaret Johnson getting naming credit. The winner will be the King of the South. The teams meet in Week 4.
