ACU's Jaren Lewis earns Southland honor

FRISCO, Texas – Abilene Christian’s Jaren Lewis is the Southland Conference Player of the Week. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com.
The Wildcats (15-11, 7-6 SLC) split their games at home last week, falling to first place Nicholls (16-9, 10-2 SLC) 69-65 on Wednesday and defeating UIW (5-17, 0-12 SLC) 80-69 on Saturday.
Lewis averaged 19 points and 18.5 rebounds for the two games to keep ACU on pace to clinching its first Southland postseason berth in its first year eligible since completing the transition to Division I.
The Wildcats and Lamar (15-11, 7-6 SLC) are tied for seventh place.
Lewis put together his two best games as a Wildcat. In Wednesday’s game versus Nicholls, the junior forward pulled down a career-best 20 rebounds to set an ACU Division I era record.
He also added 18 points, two steals, an assist and block in the outing. He followed that performance with a 17-rebound effort against UIW on top of a 20-point night, knocking down two triples in a second half run to open up the game for the Wildcats.
He has now registered three consecutive double-doubles.
