CHS and AHS scrimmage for APD K9 Unit

Cooper High and Abilene High baseball teams scrimmaged in costumes for a fundraising event to support the Abilene Police Department K9 Unit Monday at Scott Field.
Cooper High Head Coach Cody Salyers said, "We figured if we could give the Abilene Police Department K9 Unit some money that we could raise by doing this event then it would be a good deal. We figured we had to add the costumes to make sure that it was something funny for everybody."
Abilene High Head Coach Ryan Lewis, "It's good that they learn this now, and they're going to have a great time with it playing against the guys from Cooper that they go to church with and hang out with on a regular basis. We can compete, but we don't have to hate each other tonight. We can relax a little bit."
K9 Officer Kevin Pyeatt said, "These dogs spend an average of 40 hours per week out here working with the citizens of Abilene, working for the citizens of Abilene, and it's nice to have them come out and appreciate us."
K9 Officer Josh New said, "It's really awesome that they picked the K9 Unit to support. The money will go to refurbish some equipment that we've got good use out of the last couple of years."
The Cougars open the season in the Prosper tournament.
Abilene High gets started in the Azle tournament this week.
