High school football player caught on video hitting opponent with helmet

An investigation is underway after a New Jersey high school football player was caught on video ripping the helmet off a player of the opposing team and hitting him with it.

During Friday night's game between Linden and Immaculata high schools, Linden's defensive lineman grabbed the helmet off his opponent and hit him in the head, causing him to get 10 stitches.

The Linden player was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct but was not ejected from the game. "The Today Show" reports that player has since been suspended from the team.

Linden school officials released a statement about the incident:

"An investigation by the administration is taking place and disciplinary consequences will be issued accordingly."

The Juvenile Bureau of the Linden New Jersey Police Department is investigating to decide whether charges will be filed.

This is the third incident in recent weeks in where a high school football player has been in trouble for their actions on the field.

Last Friday, a high school football player in San Antonio was caught on video shoving an official during a game after a penalty call.

Earlier this month, two players from a different San Antonio area high school were seen hitting an official, knocking him to the ground.
