"Blade Runner" Oscar Pistorius was freed from a South African prison Monday and will now be under home arrest at his uncle's house, NBC News and USA Today reported.
The Olympic sprinter served less than a year behind bars in the shooting death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in 2013.
Pistorius' lawyer, Brian Webber, confirmed the release to NBC.
The 28-year-old is serving a five-year term in the death of Steenkamp, a law graduate and model.
The parole board considered the release because the country's prisons are overcrowded and underfunded, USA Today reported.
Pistorius will be under electronic monitoring, the newspaper said.
