Texans defensive end JJ Watt was named one of the best sellers on NFLPA's (National Football League Players Association) Top 50 Player Sales list.
The list is based on total sales of officially licensed merchandise, tracking year to date results from March 1st through August 31st, 2015.
It is released quarterly by the NFLPA, via its licensing and marketing arm NFL Players Inc., and is based on overall sales of all licensed products from online and traditional retail outlets as reported by more than 80 NFLPA licensees.
Licensed product categories include men’s, women’s and youth game jerseys and t-shirts, player murals, figurines, matted and framed photos, bobbleheads, lanyards, key rings, pins, drinkware, socks, jewelry and electronic device accessories, among others.
Russell Wilson is the current retail leader, but Watt rounded out the top five quarterbacks, along with Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers.
Watt has also sold the most from a new collection of Bleacher Creature plush dolls, which were showcased with Watt on HBO’s Hard Knocks.
Wilson, Manning, Rodgers, Watt and Brady are also most popular among kids in hardlines and apparel, which includes licensees Bleacher Creatures, Outerstuff and Oyo Sportstoys.
Watt also reigns supreme in women's apparel sales and leads defensive players in Nike jersey sales, according to the NFLPA.
