It does not always work out that way for the Hurricanes, but it did Friday night. They saved their best defensive performance for their last — and most important — game of the regular season.
Sam Houston held Jefferson to a season-low point total, which also was a season low for its opponents, in a 47-26 win at the Alamo Convocation Center. It avenged a 49-47 loss to the Mustangs exactly one month earlier and gave the Hurricanes the outright District 28-5A championship.
