A week after scoring just six points, No. 8 Riordan scored five offensive touchdowns, all of which came on plays of 37 yards or longer, in a 45-19 West Catholic Athletic League road victory. Senior quarterback Jacky Luavasa drew it up nicely, rushing for 122 yards and two touchdowns and throwing for 276 more and two other scores. Verba-Hamilton returned the kickoff for a 76-yard touchdown and after the defense forced a punt, quarterback Luavasa found Daniel Norman for an 86-yard score. In addition to the two long passing touchdowns, Luavasa ran for scores of 37 and 83 yards in the opening quarter and Dylan Ennis hit a 24-yard field goal. Matty Hazelwood led St. Ignatius’ defense with a 60-yard interception return for touchdown and a fumble recovery. Junior quarterback Leki Nunn (12 of 16, 195 yards, three touchdowns) continues to excel and Serra’s defense — after giving up nine touchdowns to Riordan — hasn’t given up a score in two games. Junior quarterback Roel Marania had a career game, completing 10 of 12 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns as the host Mustangs (5-3, 3-1) won the battle for second place in the AAA. Williams-Chish also had four catches for 153 yards and three touchdowns and he completed a 48-yard touchdown pass to Min Zaw, who also rushed twice for 86 yards and another score. Quarterback and linebacker Ethan Nelson scored on a 5-yard run and added a 30-yard interception return for another score as host Galileo (1-6, 1-2 AAA) won its first game.
