Top 25 rankings: Plenty of movement in poll

    Top 25 rankings:

Unlike a week ago, this week Chronicle Top 25 football rankings are anything but status quo.

Last week, there was no movement among the first seven spots from the preseason rankings, but with nine Top 25 teams losing either Friday and Saturday — including No. 2 Clayton Valley Charter and No. 3 Antioch — the shakeup this week was considerable.

Only two teams — No. 1 De La Salle-Concord and No. 11 Serra — remained in the same spot as last week.

The biggest riser in the rankings was California-San Ramon, which jumped seven spots to No. 13 after an impressive 28-15 win at previous No. 15 Foothill-Pleasanton.

Milpitas, after an impressive 49-28 win over previous No. 3 Antioch, jumped four spots to No. 8 and the Panthers dropped to No. 9.

Newcomers to the rankings were Hillsdale-San Mateo and Piedmont, both 2-0, coming in at Nos. 24 and No. 25, respectively.

Hillsdale’s season-opening 21-12 win over Riordan looked far more impressive after Riordan knocked off previous No. 16 Sacred Heart Prep-Atherton 19-3 on Saturday.

SHP and No. 17 Moreau Catholic-Hayward were the only teams to drop out of the rankings.

Moreau lost a lopsided 41-7 home game to previous No. 25 McClymonds-Oakland, which jumped to No. 19.

Piedmont’s season-opening 48-14 win over Justin-Siena looked much more impressive after Justin-Siena defeated a promising Sacred Heart Cathedral squad 26-13 on Friday.

Five teams on the bubble are Aragon-San Mateo (2-0), Dublin (2-0), Granada-Livermore (2-0), Half Moon Bay (2-0) and Mitty (1-1).
